New Year: New Life. And More Photography!

I just looked back at the last blog I posted. It was on June 17th of last year. The thing I neglected to post on June 17th of last year, was that the morning had started out with a positive pregnancy test. :D :D :D

The day after that, we went to Disneyland. Too much fun to post!

And then, shortly after that, I got nauseated. And stayed nauseated for about 13 weeks. Too nauseated to post. The computer screen did not help the nausea. Zofran helped. And laying totally still. And, you know, throwing up.

After the nausea went away, and everyone knew I was pregnant, I just totally forgot I had a blog at all!

So here we are, at the beginning of 2012! And it is going to be a huge year. HUGE.

Huge Thing #1: Me. At 32 weeks, there is no hiding the fact that I'm "with child," even in scrubs, which are monumentally forgiving to minor figure flaws (they just make everyone look boxy) Witness below:
And I'm only going to get huger (more huge?) over the next 7-9 weeks.

Huge Thing #2: Becoming a parent, of course. Is there anything huger? More huge?

Huge Thing #3: We will probably move. Don't know where, don't know when exactly, but it is definitely on the horizon for us.

And Beyond: I'm sure there will be other huge things, or at least large things, that happen this year (like becoming an aunt-to-be, maybe, we hope, *wink wink, nudge nudge*), but I was not blessed or cursed with the gift of foresight, so we'll just have to wait to find out!

In the mean time, I plan to start the year out by preparing to look back at this time of our lives fondly. And the best way, in my opinion, to look back at your life, fondly or otherwise, is with TONS OF PICTURES!

I love pictures, especially of people I know and love, including myself. Even better, I love pictures where all those people I know and love (including myself) look good.

Like here!

Or here!

(Yes, since June 17th, I have been in two weddings - involving four of the greatest people I know, and two of the most beautiful brides ever)

So, combine Huge Things #1 and #2, my desire to reminisce and my love of good photography, the obvious end result is (drum-roll): Maternity Photography! Followed by Newborn Photography!

I found a local photographer on craigslist who looks promising. (I don't know that this photographer rivals David Shirk, but I can't really take him away from his family every time I want to feel pretty)

In preparation for Photo Day, I decided I needed to scour the interwebs to see what I like and dislike in maternity pictures. If you don't like seeing pregnant bellies, you should leave now.

For those of you remaining...

I have discovered that I like:

Silhouettes:

Outdoor/Nature shots:

Off kilter angles:

Close up 'hands on the belly' shots:

Mom and Dad in love:

I have also discovered that I don't like:

Angel wings. Ever.

The, 'I was fleeing, but got trapped in the drapery' shot:

The 'Whose belly is bigger' shot:

And, of course, anything that ends up on http://awkwardfamilyphotos.com

Maternity photography is not quite as diverse or ubiquitous as wedding photography, but I am having just as much fun looking at it! I can't wait to see what Marc and I will end up with!

I'm hoping to have at least one "I accidentally fell in the pool with my high heels on and purse in hand" shot:
